Sing with me (to the tune of London Bridge is falling down...). "All the leaves are falling down, falling down, falling down. All the leaves are falling down. It is Autumn." Great job!!

There are two HUGE silver maples in front of my house and they are loaded with beautiful leaves - yellow, orange, and red. They are falling down, falling down, falling down. Mom mowed
and mulched this past Saturday, but the yard was already getting covered in leaves again. Mom used to love to rake leaves as a kid and fortunately for the grass, she still likes to rake leaves.
Tonight Mom and I turned on the front porch light, took out our rakes, and set to work.

We raked up most of the leaves into a BIG HUGE PILE under one of the maple trees that gets the least amount of sunlight under it. Did you know that leaves make great mulch? Did you know that mulch helps the ground retain water so the trees can slowly sip up the rain instead of having to gulp up the rain as it comes down?

Mom told me that tree roots are like big straws that stretch out under the grass so the trees can suck up all the rain water and grow healthy and strong like me. Learning about trees is fun, but my favorite part tonight was playing in the big pile of leaves.
