An Intro from Mom

On May 12, 2007 closed in the privacy of my bathroom I found out I was pregnant. The weight of knowledge that my life (and most likely my body) would never be the same was overwhelming. I was excited and scared all rolled into one (and still am!)

Thacker will do his best to share with you his adventures. Enjoy!

Milestone: Kindergarten

For those of you keeping up with my mom on Facebook, you've already seen snippets of my amazing first day of kindergarten. To keep everyone on the same page, we'll do a recap here.

Despite the drizzly weather,
it was sunny and full of energy in our house this morning. We were out the door and waiting for the school bus.
Matthew and I had fun jumping over the puddles while Mom tried to corral me into staying relatively dry before I headed off the school. The bus rumbled down the road and subsided to a stop.
I bounded across the street, climbed the stairs,
found a seat, scooted over to the window, and commenced to blowing kisses and waving as the bus drove away. I was excited!

When I got home this afternoon, Mom was waiting right where I left her. I hope she didn't sit there all day. Anyway, I played a few computer games while Mom tried to ask me about my day. Here are some of the things I told her.

  • The teachers, except for 1, pretended they were students doing not-so-nice things, e.g. swinging our lunch boxes, play fighting with bananas. My classmates and I learned what not to do.
  • I had music today and played a flute. We jumped up and down in music class too.
  • I had to wear a name tag all day.
  • I liked everything in my lunch that Mom packed for me. I ate EVERYTHING except a couple of bites of cottage cheese.
  • We didn't play on the playground today.
  • I like my teachers: Mrs. Bethel and Ms. Ullman.
  • Mrs. Bethel's daughter is coming back to visit her at Christmas.
  • We learned about safety and I asked read something about the coast guard. We read about the coast guard on the computer.
  • I showed Mom how to use the Parent - Teacher Communicator worksheet and record my homework.

After a snack, Mom and I headed out the door to my karate class (LOTS of running today - read stronger but TIRED),
dinner at Chipotle to celebrate my first day of kindergarten and support the Taubman Art Museum (50% of the cost of our meal went to support the museum between 3 and 8 p.m. today), and finished up our celebration outing at Sweet Frog. Yum!

On the way home, I admitted to being tired. I almost NEVER say that I'm tired. Once home, I took a bath, put on my pjs, brushed my teeth, and did my homework. My homework was to read a book. I really wanted to read this book we borrowed from the library about the U.S. Coast Guard. After we finished that I needed something a little bit lighter to smile myself to sleep. We read Elephant and Piggie's A Big Guy Took My Ball. Hilarious!

Mom sang my go-to-bed songs and then I asked to play with her hair. Mom LOVES for me to play with her hair, soooo
I whipped up a fabulous style (Mom always thinks of Grandaddy and Nell when I'm styling her hair) and then drifted off to sleep with a smile on my face. 1 day of kindergarten down and 179 to go!
