An Intro from Mom

On May 12, 2007 closed in the privacy of my bathroom I found out I was pregnant. The weight of knowledge that my life (and most likely my body) would never be the same was overwhelming. I was excited and scared all rolled into one (and still am!)

Thacker will do his best to share with you his adventures. Enjoy!

Backpacking Buddies

This past Sunday Mom and I loaded all of our gear (well most of it was mine...) into our friends' Ruth and Naomi's car. We headed north to Eagle Rock and hit the Roaring Run trail. It was over 90 degrees outside but the trail was shady and we knew water was nearby.

We paused to look at the Roaring Run Iron Furnace. To quote from the Waterfalls of the Blue Ridge book we have. "[The furnace] which operated in the nineteenth century, is on the National Register of Historic Places. A pamphlet put out by the New Castle Ranger District describes it as a "standing pre-Civil War iron ore furnace, used for making iron ingots, stoves, and other iron products for the building of America."

Done with our history lesson, we headed up hill. Ruth and Mom were quite sweaty but Naomi and I were cool as cucumbers in our backpacks. Mom said something about feeling like a donkey but we made it! The falls were BEAUTIFUL! You can sneak a peek of them behind us.

Then, it was snack time. Naomi LOVED my Annies' cheddar bunny crackers.
Mom and I clowned around a bit. I liked the dirt and leaves. I even snuck a leaf into my mouth (the one just there in front of me) while Mom and Ruth were chatting. I thought it would be good fiber until I started coughing and Mom dug it out of my mouth. Bummer. Guess I'll have to stick to beans.
The trip back was much easier on Ruth and Mom - relatively flat. Naomi is ready to chill in the car's A/C and I decided to take in the scenery through the backs of my eyelids.

Mom and I are already looking forward to our next adventure with Ruth and Naomi.
