An Intro from Mom

On May 12, 2007 closed in the privacy of my bathroom I found out I was pregnant. The weight of knowledge that my life (and most likely my body) would never be the same was overwhelming. I was excited and scared all rolled into one (and still am!)

Raleigh Roadtrip

Mom and I packed up the GTI and headed south to Raleigh for the weekend to hang with Aunt Lelley. We got there just in time for me to send home the last couple of kids from Lelley's 5th grade class. I got straight to work teaching and made them copy down what I wrote on the markerboard before they left for the weekend.

We had dinner and chilled at Lelley's Friday night and it's a good thing because we rolled on Saturday. Here's the list:

  1. Made muffins for breakfast.
  2. Dropped off Lelley's car for a bath.
  3. Came back and cruised the neighborhood yard sale. Scored some fall clothes and a couple of new drills so I can help Dad in the garage and Mom around the house.
  4. Took a nap.
  5. Munched on some grapes and yummy egg salad Mom and Lelley made.
  6. Went out to pick up the two-drawer file that Lelley bought at a neighbor's house (...once we finally found the house again. I was getting carsick from going in so many circles...not really...just pokin' fun at Lelley. Gotta love her!)
  7. Dropped off the two-drawer file, loaded up the stroller, and headed off to the North Carolina Museum of Art's Museum Park.
  8. Cruised the whole Museum Park http://www.ncartmuseum.org/ (see pics below).
  9. Stopped by to see Lelley's friend Mindy, Sean and their little seven week old girl, Lili.
  10. Went to dinner at Moonlight Pizza. Yummy!

  12. Picked up Aunt Lelley's car.
  13. Went back to Aunt Lelley's and took a bath in the HUGE bathtub with Mom - room for BIG splashing!
  14. Crashed in my on-the-go-bed.

This morning we got up, had breakfast at Flying Biscuit http://www.flyingbiscuit.com/ , stopped by Home Depot, came back to Lelley's, hung some wall art, changed out the furnace filter, then hit the road going north. On the way back home we made a slight diversion and stopped at VIR to see our buddy AJ Nealey (http://www.ajnealeyracing.com/) racing in the VW Jetti TDI Cup race. AJ is the black race car currently sixth in the race (count from right to left six cars and that's him). He made two super passes and finished fourth. In the race he did yesterday he stepped up onto the podium in second place. It was his first two Jetta TDI Cup races and I'm super proud of him!!

Dad was at the top of the bleachers so he could get a better view of all the turns in this area of the track. I spent a lot of time climbing bleachers trying to get a better view too. I worked up a big thirst and sucked down this whole bottle of apple juice.

Here's a recap of the Museum Park we visited on Saturday. There are lots of pics 'cause it was lots of fun.Reading up on the 'Wind Machine' - liked all its moving parts - composed of the discarded parts from cars, trucks, bicycles, farm machinery, street lights, and highway signs (picture was on the Museum Park brochure you saw above). Cruising through 'Gyre'. Hamming it up with Mom. Loved the "Whisper Bench". There was a companion bench across the trail. Aunt Lelley and I whispered through this sound pipe to each other. Who said it's just for whispering? Trying to figure out the camera obscura effect in the "Cloud Chamber for the Trees and Sky' that looked like a little hobbit house.

Loved crossing over the bridges - my first bridge, bridge over House Creek looking at the fish below, and Reedy Creek Pedestrian Bridge over 440.

It was a GREAT weekend! Can't wait for my next roadtrip!
