An Intro from Mom

On May 12, 2007 closed in the privacy of my bathroom I found out I was pregnant. The weight of knowledge that my life (and most likely my body) would never be the same was overwhelming. I was excited and scared all rolled into one (and still am!)

Thacker will do his best to share with you his adventures. Enjoy!

Flashback: April 2014

April was full of great photo ops.
I met up with my good friend Julian to see a Salem Red Sox game on April 11. Despite a few showers, we bounced in the bouncy house, chased each other around the seats, ate hot dogs, and watched a little bit of the game.
We stayed until the fireworks. Yay, America! It was a quintessential American outing.
On the beautiful spring days, Sprout patiently waited at the bus stop for me to get home.
On April 17th we hit the road bound for the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Towpath again. It's become a favorite biking and camping spot of ours. After staying the night at Barrett and Danielle's house on Thursday night, we were up and at 'em the next morning starting at Point of Rocks, MD on Friday and finishing at Williamsport, MD on Sunday.
It hadn't rained that much. That didn't stop me from targeting and hitting every puddle that was out there. Previous bike trips, I have ridden in the trailer or the tag-along. This was my first bike trip peddling my own bike.
We took breaks at the old canal lock houses. This is Lock 37.
Along the ride I learned more plants. The trail was flanked by beautiful Virginia bluebells in some areas.
Dutchman's Breeches was my favorite to learn.
Pre-dinner shenanigans with Paul and Barrett
While we were sleeping at camp, the Easter Bunny found me!
I peddled 50+ miles on this trip and loved it! This is us at Dam 4.
The trail is beautiful and varied. We loved this Big Slackwater area that was opened in 2012 after being closed for many years due to flood damage. It was a great trip and we look forward to sharing many more trips like this with our friends.
On April 22 Earth Day, I had the day off from school and Mom promised me we'd do something fun after she finished her work commitments for the day. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Mill Mountain, so that's where we headed. We went to the Mill Mountain Zoo. Because  it was a week day there were not as many people in the park as on a weekend day. We sat quietly in the aviary area for quite a while. The birds got used to us being there and got quite close.
Our City's star! The Mill Mountain Star!
I'm worked on my parkour moves at Mill Mountain Park

We enjoyed the view of Roanoke from the observation platform on Mill Mountain
After a deep winter snow and some sustained bitter cold temperatures for around these parts, spring is showing up on the trees. The dogwood have started to set their buds.
Time to start mowing the grass.

Next post, Flashback: May through July 2014.
