An Intro from Mom

On May 12, 2007 closed in the privacy of my bathroom I found out I was pregnant. The weight of knowledge that my life (and most likely my body) would never be the same was overwhelming. I was excited and scared all rolled into one (and still am!)

Thacker will do his best to share with you his adventures. Enjoy!

Buzzards Rock

After Mom, Dad and I fueled up on turkey wraps (with a side of sweet taters for me!) for lunch, Mom and I set off on a new adventure. We drove about a 1/4 the way around Read Mountain (the mtn behind our house) to the NEWEST and BIGGEST Roanoke County park. It's only 5 minutes from our house! The big attraction at the park is the trail to Buzzards Rock. For some reason when Mom read the little blip about the trail she thought it was 1.9 miles round trip. Well, it was 1.9 miles one way UP! We made it - slow and steady - and the view was worth every bit of burn in the leg muscles (at least that's what Mom said - I was in the backpack affectionately calling Mom my mule and prodding at her with a stick that I found along the way). Here I am taking in the view. There were quite a few of these large limestone (?) rocks to perch on at the top. Mom and I claimed this flat wide one so I could stretch my legs a little. We had some water. I checked the forest floor for rocks, sticks and critters. Then it was time to head back. Has anyone seen my mule...I mean...mom? Whew! Found her! Mom did a great job of getting us back down the trail smoothly. I even managed to nap for about 20 minutes. Maybe next time I'll carry Mom.
