After the GA Aquarium on Thursday, Mom and I had dinner with some of our friends, Beri, Carlie and Holley at a yummy local pub called 5 Seasons.
Before we went in for dinner, I watched a good ol' Norfolk Southern train ramble down the tracks. Norfolk Southern has offices in Atlanta and Roanoke where Papa worked for many years.
After dinner we headed for Stone Mountain Park Campground and set up camp again. This time our site was only 200'+ and down a hill from our car. We enjoyed the fireworks from across the lake and were entertained by ducks swimming by our campsite. We also slept a little better b/c Mom broke out the battery operated fan. In my sleep I kept working my way closer and closer to the fan. Mom kept moving me back to my cushy blanket and sheet, but I was determined even while sleeping, and kept inching my way back to the fan. Finally Mom gave up and let me sleep thankfully close to the fan (who cares if I was on the tent floor).
On Friday morning we headed to the Stone Mountain Park area. There was a Great Barn where I crawled around on big squishy cows and pigs, crawled through tunnels, threw nerf-like balls, and went down little slides. I was running around squealing with joy and having a blast. Mom loaded me into the stroller and booked it across the park to catch the train - the Stone Mtn Scenic Railroad ride. About 5 minutes into the ride, I saw nothing but the back of my eyelids. Mom's lap was comfy and that Great Barn wore me out! We ate lunch at the park and headed back to camp to try to catch a nap in the tent.
The tent was way too hot so as Mom was dozing off to sleep, I figured out how to unzip the tent door and almost escaped. Mom snatched me up, buckled me into the car, and started driving around the park. I think the air conditioning and car lulled me to sleep b/c the next thing I knew Mom was packing up camp and saying something about Travel Plan B.
After more Atlanta traffic and a few miles of traveling up 85N, Mom led me into a room at a Best Western and announced that this would be where we set up "camp" for Friday evening.
I saw the big king sized bed, declared "Night night", and laughed as I said "choo choo" when Mom found Thomas the Train on the TV. We ate dinner in the room, zonked out by 9:15 and slept in until 7:15. "Yippee!" Mom said.
On Saturday morning we had breakfast in the room (there are some advantages to having all of your camping gear and food in your car), loaded up the car, and headed to Road Atlanta to see Dad's race.
Chillin' with Dad at the trailer
Ready to race!
Cheering for Dad - all eyes on the track
Dad (white car with black flames passing on the inside) giving 'em the "what for"
We left right after Dad's race around 1:30. I slept all the way through Georgia and South Carolina. We stopped north of Charlotte for some gas, and shared some Dr. Pepper and Nutter Butter bites (Mom said something about a quality snack). We made it to Elkin, NC for dinner at Cracker Barrel and then rolled the rest of the way home.
What a roadtrip!!
