An Intro from Mom

On May 12, 2007 closed in the privacy of my bathroom I found out I was pregnant. The weight of knowledge that my life (and most likely my body) would never be the same was overwhelming. I was excited and scared all rolled into one (and still am!)

Thacker will do his best to share with you his adventures. Enjoy!

On the War Path

It's really called the War Spur Loop Trail (not quite sure why), but it was fun! We conquered the trail a week ago Saturday. The trail near Mountain Lake in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests is in the shape of a lollipop which I LOVE! Here's the idea. You walk out on the stem, then around the loop, then back to where you started on the stem. Except when Paul is leading the way, the 2.4 mile trek may turn into a 4.7 mile trek. No worries though.
Just grab a walking stick, jump on Mom's back, and all is good. Giddy up!

After walking to where the War Branch Trail (not War Spur Loop Trail) connects with the Appalachian Trail,
I took over the wayfinding and got us going down the right trail. We walked through a virgin stand of hemlocks and came into this green tunnel of rhododendron and a babbling creek.
Mom and I stopped so I could touch the water with my stick.

Down the trail just a bit further, you pop out onto this beautiful overlook of the valley. I saw more evergreen trees and yellow, red, and orange leaves on the deciduous trees. After taking in the view, I was off to master some rock climbing skills.
Mom coached me through a few footholds
and then I was unstoppable.

Now it's your turn!! Get out there, get some fresh air, and soak up the abundance of nature.
