I added a new word to my vocabulary last Friday - derecho. That storm was a walloping way to kickstart my week of vacation. Our house survived just fine minus a few downed branches in the yard.
As luck would have it, I was at Granny Linda and Granddaddy's for a few days and had just arrived last Friday when BLAMO the power went out. We didn't have the power back there until Monday morning. It was an adventure. I played on the front porch in the mornings and down in the basement at night. I learned about oil lamps and importance of having batteries convenient for emergencies.
Mom did not lose power at our house. I'd like to say she and Sprout were living it up, but unfortunately Mom was sick with bronchitis and spent the time sleeping, reading, and sleeping some more.
When I came home on Wednesday, Mom was starting to feel better. Mom, Paul, and I went to see the City of Roanoke fireworks. We had a nice walk to and from the show via the Roanoke Greenway from Wasena Park. Thursday morning the fun was over.

Mom put me to work. Isn't this supposed to be my week of vacation?
